Your questions, answered.
A little guidance for your indoor growing journey.
What can I grow with Botaleo?
You can grow a wide range of fresh ingredients:
- Leafy greens: lettuce, arugula, spinach, kale, Swiss chard, bok choy and mizuna.
- Herbs: basil, parsley, cilantro, mint, chives, dill, oregano, thyme, rosemary and sage.
- Fruits and vegetables: strawberries, cherry tomatoes, compact peppers, chillies, cucumbers, peas and compact eggplants.
- Flowers: suitable varieties of nasturtiums, pansies, violas and calendula.
Choose varieties that suit your growing conditions. Larger or climbing plants may need additional support, and fruiting crops grown indoors may need help with pollination.
How does Botaleo work?
Botaleo grows plants vertically using nutrient-enriched water. A pump circulates the solution through the tower to feed the roots, and excess water returns to the reservoir. This brings multiple growing positions together in one compact system.
Do I need gardening experience?
No previous experience is necessary to get started. Begin with a few straightforward crops, such as lettuce, arugula and basil, and follow the growing instructions. Regular checks of your plants, water and nutrients will help you build confidence as your garden develops.
How much space do I need?
The tall configuration pictured measures approximately 165 cm high and 53 cm wide. Allow extra room around the tower for mature plants, airflow and harvesting. Dimensions vary by configuration, so check your selected model before choosing its position.
Can I grow indoors, outdoors or all year round?
Indoor growing is possible with suitable grow lights, temperature and airflow. Choose a version with lights if your location does not provide enough natural light.
Outdoors, match your crops to the sunlight and local season. Growing throughout the year requires conditions that support your chosen plants, particularly during colder or darker months.
How soon can I start harvesting?
Some baby greens can be ready for a light harvest within a few weeks after transplanting. Full-size leafy vegetables and fruiting crops take longer. Timing depends on the variety, whether you start with seeds or seedlings, and the light, temperature and care your plants receive.
What do I need to start growing?
You will need suitable seeds or healthy seedlings, compatible growing plugs, clean water and hydroponic nutrients. You will also need a way to check the nutrient solution’s pH.
Follow the instructions for your tower and nutrient formula. Check the contents of your selected configuration to see which supplies are included.
How much maintenance does it need?
Check the water level, circulation and plant health regularly. Refill the reservoir as needed, manage nutrients and pH, and harvest or prune plants to maintain space and airflow.
You will also need to remove old roots and periodically clean the reservoir, pump and water passages according to the instructions. Water demand increases as plants grow and during warm weather.
Can I keep harvesting from the same plants?
Many leafy greens and herbs allow repeated harvests. Pick mature outer leaves or trim herbs while leaving enough healthy growth for the plant to recover.
Plants eventually need replacing as they age, flower or become less productive. Starting new seedlings at different times can help spread your harvests out.
Can I grow without spraying pesticides?
Yes, you can choose to grow without pesticide sprays. You control what you apply to your plants.
Start with healthy plants, inspect them regularly and address minor pest problems early. Indoor growing can reduce some exposure, but plants still need monitoring because no garden is automatically pest-free.
Can Botaleo help me spend less on groceries?
Growing herbs and greens you regularly buy can replace some produce purchases. Harvesting smaller amounts when needed can also help you avoid buying a whole bunch for just a few leaves.
Your savings depend on successful harvests, local produce prices and growing costs. Include the initial cost of the tower when comparing overall spending.
