Inside you’ll learn:
A little guidance for your indoor growing journey.
Choose from 150 types of plants, from everyday vegetables and aromatic herbs to colourful flowers. Here are a few examples:
Grow indoors or outdoors, choosing plants that suit your space, light, and temperature. Check our seasonal growing guide to help you decide what to plant.
Choose compact varieties where possible. Larger or climbing plants may need extra support, and some fruiting crops grown indoors may need help with pollination.
Botaleo grows plants vertically without soil. A pump sends water mixed with plant nutrients from the reservoir to the top of the tower. The water then flows down through the growing levels, feeding the roots before returning to the reservoir to circulate again.
No previous experience is necessary to get started. Begin with a few straightforward crops, such as lettuce, arugula and basil, and follow the growing instructions. Regular checks of your plants, water and nutrients will help you build confidence as your garden develops.
Botaleo is available in three variants: 20 planting spots (105 cm tall), 28 planting spots (134 cm tall), or 36 planting spots (165 cm tall). All variants are 53 cm wide. Choose the option that suits your space, allowing extra room for plant growth and easy harvesting.
The model with grow lights is designed for indoor growing, giving your plants light even in spaces with limited sunlight.
The model without lights is best suited to outdoor spaces, such as a balcony or patio. It can also be used indoors if your plants receive enough natural light or you provide suitable grow lights.
Some baby greens can be ready for a light harvest within a few weeks after transplanting. Full-size leafy vegetables and fruiting crops take longer. Timing depends on the variety, whether you start with seeds or seedlings, and the light, temperature and care your plants receive.
You will need suitable seeds or healthy seedlings, compatible growing plugs, clean water and hydroponic nutrients. You will also need a way to check the nutrient solution’s pH.
Follow the instructions for your tower and nutrient formula. Check the contents of your selected configuration to see which supplies are included.
Botaleo recirculates water through the tower, using up to 95% less water than traditional soil gardening.*
Check water levels, nutrients, pH, and plant health regularly. Refill as needed, prune or harvest to maintain airflow, and periodically clean the reservoir, pump, and water passages.
Water savings depend on the crops, climate, and growing conditions.
Many leafy greens and herbs allow repeated harvests. Pick mature outer leaves or trim herbs while leaving enough healthy growth for the plant to recover.
Plants eventually need replacing as they age, flower or become less productive. Starting new seedlings at different times can help spread your harvests out.
Yes, you can choose to grow without pesticide sprays. You control what you apply to your plants.
Start with healthy plants, inspect them regularly and address minor pest problems early. Indoor growing can reduce some exposure, but plants still need monitoring because no garden is automatically pest-free.
Growing herbs and greens you regularly buy can replace some produce purchases. Harvesting smaller amounts when needed can also help you avoid buying a whole bunch for just a few leaves.
Your savings depend on successful harvests, local produce prices and growing costs. Include the initial cost of the tower when comparing overall spending.
